What is a Brazilian Butt Lift?
The Brazilian Butt Lift procedure involves removing fat from one area of your body with liposuction. The fat is then very carefully washed, strained and prepared for injection. This harvested fat, if treated and injected properly, will survive as living fat in its new location. This means that the injected fat increases or decreases in size with weight gain or weight loss as a patient would normally expect. This newly injected fat will also last a very long time.
Dr. Schneider uses a technique to fill out different regions of the buttocks depending upon the individual’s shape and their desired contour.
Safety of the Brazilian Butt Lift
The safety of the Brazilian Butt Lift has been questioned because of deaths related to injecting the fat into the butt muscles (gluteus muscles). Because of unsavory practitioners, Florida has now enacted a law prohibiting injecting into the muscle.
That said, Dr. Schneider has always performed the procedure without injecting fat into the muscle, and was a strong proponent of this law.
Procedure and Recovery
Once the fat is prepared, it is meticulously injected into the buttocks region with a special technique developed by Dr. Sydney Coleman. This technique makes sure to carefully stay above the muscle.
The procedure takes 1-4 hours depending upon how many areas the patient has liposuctioned. In many patients, liposuction of the abdomen, flanks, hips and back is performed. Some patients even choose to have liposuction of their legs and arms at the same time.
We ask our patients not to sit or lay on their buttocks for a minimum of 2 days but we prefer 1-2 weeks. The volume of the buttocks is usually stable in 6 weeks.
