Lose Body Fat

Strategies For Weight Loss

Most people who have tried to lose weight by dieting usually pick a specific diet, be it low calorie, protein based, low carbohydrate, etc., and stay on it for a period of time. Eventually these dieters will plateau and the weight will stop falling off. Following the same steady diet day after day will allow your metabolism to become accustomed to the same energy intake and expenditure and it will self adjust. This plateau unfortunately hinders weight loss. To avoid the plateau, successful dieters will vary their intake so their metabolism stays in a fat burning state, and thus they maximize their weight loss.

At the Schneider Centre for Plastic Surgery, we frequently change the patient’s diet by varying how much protein, how many carbohydrates, how many fats, and how many calories are consumed so the body doesn’t slow the metabolism to accommodate a decreased intake. Altering your diet is not as hard as it seems and it wont require you to go on a scavenger hunt looking for certain foods to prepare. The Schneider Centre ensures that it is as easy as possible by providing you customized, delicious, fresh meals that are tailored to your needs weekly and that only have to be heated.

Many patients are able to handle a decrease in food quantity. However, others may need some pharmaceutical assistance to decrease their hunger and maintain their diet. For these patients, we will prescribe an appropriate, proven, weight loss medicine. The chart below describes many of the pharmaceutical alternatives that are available.

How Well Do Weight Loss Drugs Work?

When combined with a low-calorie diet and regular exercise, weight loss drugs produce an average weight loss of 5 to 10 percent of total body weight within a year, which is a typical weight loss goal. Diet and exercise are responsible for part of this weight loss, and medications are responsible for part as well.

It’s important to keep in mind, however, that these medications may not work for everyone. And when you stop taking these medications, you’re likely to regain much or all of the weight you lost.

Exercise, Supplements, And Weight Loss

The more you move and the more you exercise, the greater the number of calories you will burn, and thus the greater the weight loss will be. Many patients are comfortable exercising on their own. There are those however who are not comfortable, and/or need assistance from a trainer. We can therefore recommend exercise professionals that have private studios that can help you achieve your weight loss goals.

Nutritional supplements can also be helpful for helping you lose fat and maintain or gain muscle. We are proud to be one of several physicians in town to offer Physician Formulated DIOXYME. They make delicious, healthy, supplements that are Non-GMO and Gluten-Free, have organic and grass fed protein, and contain no banned substances. In addition to their New Zealand Whey Protein, they offer delicious BCAA 633 (a high concentration of branch chain amino acids), MPO Muscle Protein Optimizer that helps maintain muscle mass, and a great Omega-3.

Losing 5 to 10 percent of your body fat may not seem like much, but even modest fat loss can improve your health by:

  • • Decreasing Blood Pressure •
  • • Decreasing Lipid Levels •
  • • Decreasing Blood Glucose Levels •
  • • Increasing Insulin Sensitivity •
